A poem my great grandma wrote about my great grandpa.
The Wonder Years
The Wedding Vows say till death do us part
Reality of this leaves me with a broken heart
I think when I met you, you were that special guy
We were young, barely teens, both a little shy
Now when I go back to that empty Bonham Square
I feel the presence of that smiling blue eyed boy standing there
Miles, the weather, or a year in the army, you were still my sweetheart
On September 13th, 1947 we were ready for a Matrimonial Start
We’ve had our disappointments but after seven years came joy
Our first was born, a healthy beautiful baby boy
Real soon another a dainty little brown eyed baby girl
Wonderful our family complete, surprise another chubby cheeked baby girl
Too soon we became empty nesters
Time went so fast seemed like only yesteryear
We still worked side by side everyday
When Richey went to work in the business we could get away
Our first get-a-way to Hawaii for five days
I wanted to slow down but the store needed you there
I was happy for a two week cruise once a year
Time went by too quickly but the memories are so dear
The greatest thing said to me was He really loved you
I hope and pray you know I really love you too.
